Getting the temperature right

Most quality batteries offer variable voltage, and it matters more than people expect. Low settings (around 2.5-3.0V) preserve flavour and produce a gentler draw. High settings produce more vapour but scorch terpenes and can leave a burnt taste. If your cartridge tastes harsh, turn the voltage down before assuming the oil is bad.
