Gelato

Gelato — the dessert hybrid that set the modern standard

Gelato is a potent balanced hybrid crossing Sunset Sherbert and Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookies, with creamy sweet-berry aromas and strong euphoric relaxation. It is one of the most influential strains of the past decade. Available for same-day livraison across Toronto and the GTA from Tropic Exotic.

Genetics and influence

Gelato — also known as Larry Bird — crosses Sunset Sherbert with Thin Mint GSC. It emerged from the Cookie Family in the San Francisco Bay Area and effectively created the modern “dessert souche” category. Gelato is the parent of Runtz, Jealousy, Ice Cream Cake, Gelonade, Mochi and a huge portion of what is on menus today.

Phenotypes

Numbered Gelato cuts circulate widely and differ meaningfully. Gelato #33 (Larry Bird) is the most famous and leans balanced. Gelato #41 (Bacio) is heavier and gassier. Gelato #45 is frostier and more indica-forward. When a menu lists a numbered Gelato, that number matters.

Apparence

Dense, compact buds with deep purple leaves against bright orange pistils and a thick trichome layer. Gelato is a large part of why “exotic” became a visual category.

Aroma and flavour

Creamy and sweet — berry, citrus and a dessert-like richness with a light gassy undertone that keeps it from being one-note. It is the profile most modern strains are trying to hit.

Effects

Potent and balanced. Onset is strongly euphoric and mentally bright, with physical relaxation building steadily behind it. It leaves most users relaxed but functional at moderate doses, and firmly couch-bound at higher ones.

Commonly reported uses include stress, pain, inflammation and low mood.

Terpene profile

Typically caryophyllene-dominant with limonene and humulene.
